Both The Sherman Foundation and Kottke have done a few pieces on data visualisation and presentation.
This one at the recently particularly prolific TSF, covering ReConstitution 2008, shows some very powerful and potentially powerfully misleading technologies at play.
Putting all the wizardry and funny voices aside, they’re able to present real-time statistical analysis of the debates...

This is one habit I’d be happy to see formed: Regular SNL Palin exposés.
A good piece on Criterion's Blu-Ray effort →
I love Criterion. They not only work hard, but listen to their customers. After all, it was only *after* I told them to release Lindsay Anderson’s “If….” on DVD that they got around to doing it.
They're just the same as us
I sat down with TSF and DMC last night to eat dinner from our faithful and favourite local sushi spot, and to watch Lagerfeld Confidential.
I’d been looking forward to this for some time. A glimpse into the life of the Crazy Monkey Genius.
What do you know? It turns out that he’s a Crazy Monkey Genius. And with a refreshing lack of social fears and a great tolerance for fools, but...

Video cameras to welcome their new DSLR... →
YouTube would just make this look like a totally crap video piece, which it is (not helped by Moby Branding (tm)), but just look at the video quality. Just look.

So now Wall Street consolidates. Should you care? Not even for an instant…….

– I don’t think that’s true. It’s a gross and vast generalisation. Besides, I’m going to go and work at McDonalds.

Wait. Where did the government find another $85b?
Isn’t this government bankrupt?
Aren’t we all $100,000 in debt?
Did I pull those facts out of my ass?
Oh yes, so I did, but the government probably pulled the $85b it used to bail out AIG from its own ass, and guess how it got there? Maybe a bit, just a little bit from our taxes?
So, we pay our taxes and what we have left we give some of to a fairly mandatory lottery (insurance)...

Help [someone] make the Beeriodic Table →
rufus:
I’m looking for beers that correspond to elements on the periodic table. Arsenic (As) = Asahi, Titanium (Ti) = Tiger, Potassium (K) = Kingfisher, and so on. I’ve got a lot of gaps- please help! …
Oh, I see, a Metafilter link…
Do it anyway. I suggest Zlatorog for Zr (my favourite lager, for patriotic and lead-poisoning reasons), and Union for any of the Uno/Unn ones.

iPhone 2.1 works for me...
3 weeks ago, I posted about the last iPhone update, and how it sucked. As usual with Apple they didn’t give their end users the slightest clue what was included, but being a nerdtard I upgraded immediately. Nerd. Tard.
The last 3 weeks have been the worst cell phone service I’ve had since I lived in Cambridge and had, I think, one of the first round of GSM mobiles back when Cambridge...

– Joel Johnson (old news, I know), freelance NY based tech journalist (with a blog). I’m not too familiar with him (at least, I recognise the name, but can’t say I’ve noticed an article to be his before). I couldn’t have put this better myself, even a few years ago when I was...
Daydreaming →
This is known to me as Shower Time.
The only time I come up with original ideas any more, pretty much without exception, is when I am in the shower. Of course, I can’t write them down, but they come so fast that I can’t remember them all by the time I get out.
Being underwater in the bath is similar.
I had a very clear vision the other day, whilst contemplating this very conundrum...
