One Free Mac Mini Applecare plan
That’s right. I’m giving away a spare Applecare Plan for a Mac Mini, just like this one.
You need to have bought the Mac Mini in the last year. It will probably have to have been bought in the US. It can’t have an existing Applecare plan (i.e. it should just be under the normal included 1 year warranty).
Hit me up in the comments if you want it. You’ll get a registration...
Nico’s toys come to life, presumably trying to find their missing stuffing (she has a habit of tearing a hole in them and systematically gutting them).
The only one she hasn’t gutted in Mallory, the mallard who’s too scared to move in this film.

The Beatles: The Ultimate Countdown →
A commendable idea, but so poorly executed as to reduce it to a list of Beatles songs.
Or you could look at it the other way around and note that even the 167th or 184th best songs by The Beatles are still pretty damned great.
Honestly, I’m sure the author just got overwhelmed and decided to let it go f*ck itself.
Thanks be to Kottke.
Yo-Yo and Itzhak real fake
Here's my conversation with DMC the other day while the string quartet played some John Williams doolally at the inauguration. Or rather didn't (why won't Tumblr let me add a link here?!?!?!! Anyway, it turns out they recorded it 2 days earlier). It seems I might be able to remember something from my childhood after all...
Nixta: Must be a bitch to play violin and cello etc at 26 degrees [F]
DMC: There's a reason they don't have those in marching band!
Nixta: Not just the pain, but they must detune differently.
In the run-up to Christmas, DMC persuaded me that getting a dog would be a great idea. I’ve got used to them over the past couple of years through my time spent at the beach house in Kismet where there would typically be at least one dog visiting over the weekend, and then this last year as we’ve dog-sat for our good friend Nicole’s amazingly docile and low-maintenance dog, Day-Z...
Planes: Flight Simulation of the Hudson River... →
If you watch the BBC flight-sim commissioned video that Gizmodo refers to, one thing is glaringly obvious: the data used in the flight simulator model is sparse. As the plane reaches water level and the camera points east-south-east to give a view of Manhattan, you see a Manhattan from 1830 with some skyscrapers thrown on top. I’d love to live in such a green and sparse Manhattan, where deer...
Three videos constructed in reverse.
I didn’t realise that people had done it before the hauntingly vapid Coldplay did it in The Scientist, but last night the inimitable Captain Nauta introduced me to a snapshot of his past with The Pharcyde’s “Drop” video, filmed by Spike Jonez 6 years before Coldplay’s stunt, in 1996.
There is a good write-up on that, including a...

– I’ve worked for a few companies which have made bad or delayed decisions on infrastructure, confusing business and employees, and sometimes even to the detriment of the whole firm. Atos Origin, for example, introduced Windows Mobile phones which were horrific to use. Not such a problem,...
Portable Bike Lane →
New York is actually pretty bike-friendly. It’s the cyclists that are usually cock-knockers - you know, the ones that seem to think that one-way signs don’t apply to them, that traffic lights are optional, that pedestrians are just a sidewalk nuisance. You know, the ones that somehow find themselves underneath a large truck all too infrequently.
I’m not one of those. Perhaps it...
The Rest Is History: 1914 →
Am I being dim this morning (I still can’t focus properly, and that isn’t booze related, I think I’m just getting old), but what on earth does this do? Note its electric powered scoops offset from one another, and the manual lowering mechanism…
Update: I am being dim. I didn’t even post it as a Tumblr Photo… Duh.
Initially it seems like the story will be best, but in the end it’s the cartooning that wins out.
Now I want to watch the movies again. 4,5,6 of course.

Ways to soak your iPhone...
These quotes all come from this page’s comments on how to dry out a soaked iPhone/iPod. Let this be a warning to you. Don’t keep the slippery bastard in your back pocket whilst preparing for some toilet time. It’s nearly happened to me twice, and now it’s happened to DMC (I believe it will work fine when we power it on again this evening).

Apple’s keynote address at MacWorld was notable for a few things today. No Steve Jobs (fair enough, he’s having some time off), a totally pwned macrumors.com live feed, no new Mac Mini, and something that wasn’t really announced: That the Mac Box Set software package of iWork ‘09 and iLife ‘09 includes Leopard.
