Rolling is so much less dangerous than tumbling |
I’ve said this a lot recently, mostly to myself: Come on Apple, it’s time I stopped living in this dated vision of the future! Let’s make this iTunes/AirTunes/iPhone stuff work like it should now!
I’ve offered my services to Steve Jobs to get this done. If I don’t get an outrageously generous job offer within 24 hours, I’m taking the proposal off the table ;)
Eh hem…

Dear Steve Jobs,
Apple has these devices all over the place now:
Everyone has WiFi now. How come the following use-case isn’t being addressed?
I’m leaving work. I put on my headphones and start my music playing on my iPhone. I walk to the subway, hop onto the L train to 1st Avenue, walk home and ride up elevator to my apartment, and when I enter my front door the music is already streaming from my phone over WiFi to my Airport Express attached to my stereo. I can take my headphones off and the music moves out to fill the whole room. When I open my laptop, my iPhone starts up iTunes and iTunes seamlessly takes over playing the music that my iPhone was playing.
Of course you could have your headphones sense when they’re not on or in your ears to help control this, and there’s the reverse scenario of leaving the apartment. So many cool things could be done with this. I’m sure your people have thought of all this already though. Surely they have?
The toughest bit, the hardware, is in place. Airport Express is years old now. Please just build the software.
If all your existing geniuses are busy and you want to give me the job of designing it all, well, you could always drop me an e-mail…
Carry on.
