Today we watched HBO’s brilliantly cast and on first viewing utterly compelling “Recount”. I don’t know if it’s been broadcast in the UK yet. If it has, I hope you watched it or have it recorded. If it hasn’t, I hope it is, very soon, or that you download it.
All the feelings of exasperation, of being overwhelmed by irrelevant minutiae, of rapidly losing faith in human beings, of ruing the demise of satire since you cannot satirise something that no longer pretends to be something worthwhile that it is not… All these emotions that I’ve managed to control and hide away as I got caught up in the Democratic Party’s nomination race excitement came rushing to the forefront as if the Three Gorges had burst open.
John Hurt, Dennis Leary (when did he get so thin?), Kevin Spacey. But more to the point, the reminders of all the bullshit we were too tired to deal with by the time the election crap was all over was soul-destroying. I feel much the same way right now. Obama has won. Hilary is blackmailing him into taking her on as the vice-president (something I mooted a looooong time ago, on March 5th to be precise). Then it might have made sense as a move to avoid an irrepairable split in the party. Now it’s too late, it won’t repair the party, but it merely continues to demonstrate that the woman is a monster.
It’s the same pain now as it was when Recount was set. Instead of Bush and dimpled chads, we have Hillary and being a bitch. She has set the women’s rights movement back 50 years. She won’t give up. She’s put herself before country and party time after time. Don’t give me that shit about bringing in voters that Obama can’t, because she set them against him time after time during the nomination race. She’s a monument to why women shouldn’t run a single thing, which we know isn’t true, but which we can’t argue with when she makes such a compelling argument against power women. What a fucking bitch. In fact, not only has she shattered the Democratic Party, but she’s shattered this nation’s dreams of a new direction from the Republicans.
I hope, I always hope that Obama will win, but I wonder and I fear for this country now. McCain could be so much worse. Only 4 years ago I really liked the guy. But I’m done with the republicans. I’m so done with them.
Watch Recount. If you’re American, be ashamed and revolt. Rise up. Burn their houses and steal their dogs. If you’re not American, strengthen your borders.
Update: OK, keep this up and prove me wrong. I like to be proved wrong when I’m bitter about something.
