Rolling is so much less dangerous than tumbling |
I wouldn’t ordinarily write about this except that I’ve noticed during week 1 of Wimbledon that players these days don’t seem to chase the ball as they used to. Edberg, Becker, Sampras, Agassi, Ivanisevic, Cash and McEnroe of course used to throw themselves around on the grass. Players now seem to forego chasing and acrobatics for winning a point later.
Murray just covered some incredible distances to try to save the first set, which he sadly lost on a relatively easy shot for him, but I’ve not seen this sort of tennis for a while and it seems neither had Gasquet. Even Nadal and Federer haven’t covered the court this well this tournament.
I want to see more of it. Murray’s a changed player just in the last year alone. He’s starting to look like real champion material (unlike poor Henman who never quite had that killer instinct).
Even if he goes out now, I’m glad to see such an exciting player on grass again.
