Rolling is so much less dangerous than tumbling |
Damn it. Why didn’t I think of this before? Oh well, better late than never.
DMC’s comment on the NASA zero-G experiments was “How can you make this not fun?!” and I suddenly realised I needed to trawl something up on the internet…
When I was a kid I was fascinated for a while by The Bubble Man. There are many people who call themselves that, and I honestly can’t remember which one is the one I knew from TV, but the one in the video above (Louis Pearl) seems a reasonable bet based off the bubbles and the hair.
I didn’t smoke at the time (I was a wee bit straight/square/green as a kid, but I was also only about 12). Nonetheless I did create for myself structural bubbles like the ones you first see about 50 seconds into the above video. I think that when I got to university I did once create one with smoke - a cubic bubble.
It’s not really that difficult. What was so awesome about The Bubble Man was less what he did, but more what he thought of. I suppose that’s what makes The Bubble Man awesome and David Blaine an utter tw*t.
Now, I wonder if some of these principles could be applied to the fine art of glass blowing by some talented Venetian.
