Three videos constructed in reverse.
I didn’t realise that people had done it before the hauntingly vapid Coldplay did it in The Scientist, but last night the inimitable Captain Nauta introduced me to a snapshot of his past with The Pharcyde’s “Drop” video, filmed by Spike Jonez 6 years before Coldplay’s stunt, in 1996.
There is a good write-up on that, including a fantastic note from Spike Jonez about how he was going to make the video.
Turns out that a Scottish band, Danny Wilson, had played with the whole idea a full 7 years before that. It’s all discussed here. The playlist above includes all three videos.
