My very own, the one-and-only, the inimitable DMC, is running the New York Marathon this year.
After our inspiring friend Aaron did it last year (his target was to beat Lance Armstrong’s time, which he did), she decided for some reason to take up running and has been loving it. She ran the Brooklyn Half Marathon the other week which gave me my first excuse to get to Coney Island, and has been training like mad.
She didn’t make the lottery to get into the marathon this year, so she got in by way of a charity. Now she needs to raise $2,500 for Team For Kids. She’s started her own blog at RunRunDMC.com where she will keep people up-to-date on her training, the money she’s raised, and various other Team For Kids and NY Marathon news.
If all you gentle folk chip in $25 bucks (or $26.20, or more if you can) each, she should be on course and the kids should be very happy. You can click the Sponsor DMC link at the top of this page, or you can just click below. And encourage all your friends to do so as well (it’s $5 a month until the race, and she’s the one doing all the hard slog - come on, you know you want to!).
Remember to use Entry # 349296 & last name McIntyre!!!
For some reason, DMC declined to adopt my suggested slogan for her charity push, “It’s for the kids, d*#@head!”, but give money anyway!
Below is a picture of DMC running past me at mile 9 of the Brooklyn Half Marathon while I’m distracted by some old lady in a wheelchair somewhere off camera being pushed across the crowd of runners by another old lady in what felt like a geriatric murder-suicide pact. I have no idea how they made it across the road. Dani yelled at me mid-stride to pay attention (I was supposed to cheer her on). The rest of the crowd spent the next 5 minutes laughing at me for being such an inattentive dunderhead.
